AI-powered matching rules automate transaction matching and identify mismatches, significantly reducing financial close delays and errors. This allows for early discrepancy detection and provides actionable insights, enhancing the user experience.
Key Features of Matching Rules
- Matching Rules Drawer: Located in the upper-right corner of the Transactions Detail Matching page, the Show Rules button opens the Matching Rules drawer.
- Active Tab: The Active Tab in the Matching Rules Drawer displays rules that are active for the entity pair that is currently being viewed. If there are no rules for the current entity pair, you will see “No active rules found” and you can select transactions and click “Create AI Rule” to create a rule, or you can Copy all Rules from a previous period. Other things you can do in the Active Tab:
- Search rules - from the Search rules box (with magnifying glass) you can type the name of a specific rule to view it
- Reorder rules - there are up and down arrows next to the name of each rule that will allow you to change the order rules are run
- View number of matches - the number of matches made by the specific rule for the current entity pair will be displayed next to the rule name in green
- Manage rules - By selecting ‘Manage’ under a rule, the user gets the ability to edit the rule by clicking the pencil icon, delete the rule by clicking the trash can, or modify the relationships the rule is applied to by clicking Show where active.
- Please note, if you modify the rule and add criteria that are not supported by the sample transaction, an error will occur with the rule.
- When modifying the relationships the rule is applied to, you can search entities, select all entity pairs, or select individual pairs. You must select save to apply the changes.
- Please note, when you select Manage it takes you to the Rule library to make your changes.
- Rule Library Tab: The Rule Library displays all rules that have been created, whether they are active for the current entity pair or not. From the Rule Library, you have the ability to search rules, or you can Copy all Rules from a previous period. Other things you can do in the Rules Library Tab:
- Search rules - from the Search rules box (with magnifying glass) you can type the name of a specific rule to view it
- Manage rules - By selecting ‘Manage’ under a rule, the user gets the ability to edit the rule by clicking the pencil icon, delete the rule by clicking the trash can, or modify the relationships the rule is applied to by clicking Show where active.
- Please note, if you modify the rule and add criteria that are not supported by the sample transaction, an error will occur with the rule.
- When modifying the relationships the rule is applied to, you have the ability to search entities, select/deselect all entity pairs, or select/deselect individual pairs. You must select save to apply the changes.
- Create AI Rule: From the Unmatched Transactions Tab on the Transactions Detail Matching page:
- Select a sample transaction you would like to match. In the footer, you will see the number of items and the sum of the amounts selected from each file, and a Selection difference.
- You can select One-to-One, One-to-Many, Many-to-One or Many-to-Many.
- Same-Side Match using AI is not supported - this would need to be a Manual Match.
- Click the Create AI Rule button
- Click the Currency Amount you want to match on
- Reporting, Functional or Local
- Based on the sample transactions selected, a simple and clear rule will be generated. You have the ability to rename the rule, edit the rule, and manage which relationship the rule applies to. You can also cancel the rule, or when satisfied with the rule, click Save & Apply.
- Please note, if you modify the rule and add criteria that are not supported by the sample transaction, an error will occur with the rule.
- A script will be generated behind the scenes based on the rule criteria provided, and when the rule completes, you will see the number of matches made for the entity pair that you are currently viewing.

- State the matching objective clearly
- e.g., “For ‘1-1’ matches, identify transactions in File 1 and File 2 where:”
- Provide Field-Level Details
- E.g., “identical values in Ref1” or “the same substring up to the first hyphen in Ref2”
- Define matching logic/conditions explicitly
- E.g., “identical values in Ref1” or “amounts are equal in magnitude but opposite in sign within a 5% threshold”
- avoid phrases like “share a common word”
- State the matching objective clearly
- Field Placeholders used in Rule generation
- File 1: Reporting Entity Transactions
- File 2: Trading Partner Transactions
