When you navigate to the Amortization or Depreciation module for a future period that doesn't yet have a schedule, you'll have the option to roll forward your previous schedule. Rolling forward locks the previous period and moves your schedule to the selected period, reducing the risk of manual errors.
Single Period Roll Forward:
Say the latest period with complete amortization or depreciation data is May 2026, but you're ready to begin working in June 2026. Click into the module for the June 2026 period — you'll see a prompt like the screenshot below. To start working in June, you must first roll forward your schedule from May. This locks the May period and populates June with your current schedule. This cannot be undone without resetting the entire period.
Multiple Period Roll Forward:
If you reconcile on a quarterly or annual basis, you may need to skip ahead more than one period. Say the latest period with complete data is May 2026, but you need to work in August 2026. Rather than rolling forward one month at a time, you'll see two options:
- Roll forward to the next period (June 2026)
- Roll forward directly to your target period (August 2026)
If you roll forward straight to August, the June and July periods will be rolled forward and locked automatically. This cannot be undone without resetting the entire period.
